Your hospice physician is specially trained in the care and comfort of advanced illness patients. They help develop the plan of care, give advice on comfort care, and work with the patient’s personal doctors. A registered nurse visits regularly to check on the patient, order medicines and medical equipment, organize the activities of the hospice team, and report back to doctors on how the patient is doing. The hospice team can provide blood draws, physical therapy, and many other services as necessary in the comfort of the patient’s home or assisted living facility.

Hospice social workers provide emotional support and help to families by providing financial, community, and end-of-life planning information. They can also conduct psychosocial assessments, coordinate care, and provide counseling and psychotherapy. They can also intervene in client crisis situations and help educate clients and families about their treatment plan, as well as resources and support systems available to them.

Because people differ in their spiritual or religious beliefs, our hospice chaplains provide spiritual support that meets your specific needs. Spiritual care is not just for those who are “religious.” People of different backgrounds and faiths may have specific wishes for how they are treated before and after death. The hospice chaplain or social worker works with the patient’s priest, minister, rabbi, imam, or other close spiritual advisor.

Hospice health aides are available to perform a combination of light housekeeping and personal hygiene duties, such as shopping, bathing, dressing, feeding, hair care, and oral care for patients. They also change bed linens to ensure that patients are comfortable, as well as spend time talking and listening with patients during bedside visits.

For patients being cared for primarily by loved ones, respite care allows the caregivers some time away from caregiving. Patients getting hospice care at home can also get care for up to five days and nights at a healthcare facility.

Our hospice care team members, including trained volunteers, members of the clergy, and professional counselors will work with loved ones to help them through the grieving process. The bereavement specialists offer grief and loss support and hold memorial services and support groups for loved ones throughout the year.

At Safeway Hospice Corp, our goal is to help the patient feel comfortable while allowing them to remain in control of and enjoy their life. We manage pain, discomfort, and side effects to make sure they are as free of pain and symptoms as possible.

For patients who are unable to meet their nutritional needs orally, we provide nutritional supportvia a feeding tube or intravenous catheter.

This around-the-clock level of care is provided in the home for brief periods of time when the patient is experiencing a crisis. It is designed to honor a patient’s wish to remain at home by providing the care needed to control the patient’s symptoms and alleviate the crisis.

Our volunteers are specially trained to provide in-home hospice care.

We provide short-term inpatient care for hospice patients experiencing acute symptoms that cannot otherwise be effectively managed.
